Our
friends introduced us to the idea of wine of the month clubs a few years ago,
and we are so glad they did. Initially, we joine3d the same international wine
of the month club that they belonged to. I have, for the most part enjoyed my
entire wine of the month club experience. I have managed to get more benefit out
of a California wine of the month club than I did out of the international one
which I initially joined. You see, the wine of the month club gave us wine from
all over the world, which was definitely a good thing, but there was a down side
to it. There are some varieties of wine which I simply do not like. If I get one
of these from my wine of the month club, then I will not be able to drink it,
and it will either go to waist, or I will have to trade it to a friend, or give
it as a present. I do like giving people presents, but the idea of giving
someone a wine that I only want to give away because I got it from the wine of
the month club and don't want it strikes me as a little tacky I guess.
That is why I joined a good local California wine of the month club. This may
sound strange to say, but since moving to good old California, I have never
tasted a local wine which I did not like. Now that I think about it, the same
goes for local beer. It is strange to be partial to a particular region, since
the grapes that grow there can't really be that different from those that grow
anywhere else, but I really do love California wine. My California wine of the
month club allows me to indulge that taste. Best of all, that means that when I
give away a wine that I got from my wine of the month club, I am not giving it
away because I do not like it, but simply because I think that someone else
will. Of course, there are so many people who can barely tell the difference
between one kind of wine and another, that a wine of the month club is clearly
not for everyone. If all you want is to occasionally have a good bottle, you
really do not need the expense.
